Free YouTube movie for an Irish charity for Content is King

August 30th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized 2 Comments

This year for Content is King 2010 on Nov 16th we are doing a YouTube experiment whereby we will create a YouTube movie to promote an Irish charity.

With this project we have one objective; we want to make a movie that will be viewed thousands of times, that will be passed on from person to person, and that might even go viral.

The finished movie will feature as a centre piece of “Content is King 2010” and will be analysed by a panel of experts, in addition to receiving an individual media campaign in the run up to the conference.

For Content is King 2009 we produced “DJ Hip Op” to promote positive ageing for Age Action Ireland, which to date has received over 20,000 hits and was featured on Morning Ireland, and in the national press. It can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laCLBVmk1EU

How to enter
If you are a registered charity and are interested in participating please email newmedia@mediacontact.ie and we will email you back an entry form. Entries will close on September 17th 2010.

The finished movie will be produced by TV producer and director Tom Johnson, and shot and edited by Niall Sheerin.

Search on for RTÉ boss

August 24th, 2010 Posted in TV No Comments

It’s understood RTÉ has retained an external agency to help it to find candidates for the post of director general and is hoping for applications from overseas as well as internally. The position is expected to be advertised in Irish print media and overseas in the next few weeks.
Cathal Goan has agreed to remain as Director General until a successor is appointed, which is likely to happen by the end of November.

The appointment will be made by the government on the basis of a recommendation from the RTÉ board. Frontrunners for the position remain RTE’s senior internal management.

Alison Treacy bids farewell to Mediacontact.ie

August 24th, 2010 Posted in Mediacontact.ie News No Comments

Unfortunately today marks Alison’s last day with Mediacontact.ie. She is off to pastures new, the lovely city of Edinburgh to be exact, to do her masters in English litreature.

We are all going to miss her around the office as she has added so much to the team over the past year, from her witty stories in MediaFlash and on the blog to her chasing down contacts for the directory and MediaDirect and of course the sharing of useless (but enjoyable) facts all day every day.

So from all of us here at Mediacontact.ie we’d like to say a big thank you, farewell and good luck to Alison, we’re sure you have a very successful career ahead of you and don’t forget to visit.

Newspaper sales down across the board

August 24th, 2010 Posted in Newspapers, Stats No Comments

Following on from last week’s batch of readership figures from the JNRS, the latest batch of figures from the ABC shows that newspaper sales across the board in Ireland declined again in the first half of 2010.

In the daily market, the Irish Independent continues to lead the way with an average daily net circulation of 144,896 for the period between January and June 2010. However, this was down by 4.8% on the same period in 2009 and down by 3.34% on the 149,906 that was reported for the period between July- December 2009.

The Irish Times, meanwhile, saw its ABC figure decline from 114,488 to 105,742, a 7.6% drop year-on-year.  When compared to the 106,926 that was achieved for the July-December period, the drop was a more modest 1%.
