RTE have launched a new digital strategy that will include a new look RTE Player and a brand new RTE shop for buying digital content.

A new digital division headed by Muirne Laffan has been formed to create new platforms and develop existing ones such as RTE News Now and the RTE website.

Laffan’s vision is for the national broadcaster to be accessible through every device, be it Android, Apple TV, Playstation 3 and everything else besides. On demand services and public access to audio and video archives are also in the works. Currently 50 per cent of the broadcaster’s digital traffic is via mobile and there have been 600,000 downloads of RTE News Now.

“Digital products and services will be 15pc of RTÉ’s commercial revenue by 2015,” Laffan said. “Social media integration, smart devices and communities engaging in digitally optimised content will be at the heart of it.”
