Apple are notorious for featuring only the bare essentials in their ad campaigns. This usually consists of a white background, the device being advertised, and maybe, just maybe, a hand and some text.
So it came as a shock to many when they brought out their latest ad spots, as they’ve turned to celebrity endorsement. And not just any celebrity – only Martin Scorsese, veteran director of classic films such as Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and ’scores’ of others (see what we did there?)
Sitting in the back of a taxi (a reference to the film about taxi man Travis Bickle), Scorsese rapidly fires questions at Siri about everything from scheduling, to traffic information, to the real-time location of friend in the city. Other ads have also emerged starring Zooey Deschanel, who dances in pyjamas, Samuel L Jackson, who wants to find organic mushrooms for his risotto, and John Malkovich, who is searching for the meaning of life.
Scorsese’s ad is our favourite. Have a look below.
