The Sunday Business Post has launched a new, free, online-only title; The Daily Business Post. The Daily is staffed by the same journalists and editors as its Sunday counterpart and is live from 7am – 6pm, Monday to Friday.
The print edition of the Sunday Business Post, however, has now been put behind a paywall. So if you want to access the premium content from the Sunday title online, you’ll have to part with €2.39 per edition, or €69.99 per year.
The step into the digital world hints that Thomas Crosbie Holdings may be having trouble keeping the printed title afloat, as blocking premium content online is clearly a strategy to encourage people to buy the print edition. They have, however, secured AIB as a cross-platform sponsor in what is alleged to be one of the largest deals of its kind done in Ireland this year. All that’s left is to wait and see how many of the print copy buyers will subscribe digitally.

News Corp.’s latest publication, The Daily, was unveiled to the world today. It’s a publication with a difference, however, as it is the first national daily news publication built from scratch specifically for the iPad. At New York’s Guggenheim Museum, Murdoch declared that “in the tablet era, there is room for a fresh and new voice”.
The Daily has a staff of 100 journalists from The New York Times and Forbes, and will feature almost 100 pages of original content each day. It also boasts HD video, 360 degree photos, and costs $0.14 a day via the (compulsory) subscription service. The very first edition went live at 12 p.m E.T and the lead story was the ongoing political unrest in Egypt.

Hot on the heels of Thejournal.ie and John Ryan’s Broadsheet.ie comes a new Irish online news site.
Newswhip.ie has been developed by a newcomer to publishing, lawyer Paul Quigley, who is currently advertising for two editors to help him.
He is also hoping to co-operate with some of Ireland’s independent blogs and digital media creators, as well as compile news from overseas.
Quigley has returned from New York to set up this project, which will launch in November. He said the site would display ”the brains of the Economist, the wit of Oscar Wilde and the neck of Michael O’Leary”.
As well as breaking news, it is to contain detailed analysis, plus coverage of ”digital culture and goings-on in the Irish blogosphere”.
Quigley hopes the site will appeal to early adopters and young professionals in Ireland and overseas who want an edgier tone to their serious news. Revenues will come from advertising and sponsorship, mobile applications and e-mails, once an audience is established.
