BCI launches research fund
12 May 09

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has announced details of project grants available under its Media Research Funding Scheme.

The scheme was launched in 2007 and, to date, has funded five research projects to a total value of €95,560. Applications are being invited for short-term research projects of 3-9 months duration. It is the BCI's intention that a total of two short-term projects will receive funding in 2009, to a value of €16,000 per project.

The Commission has identified a number of areas of key strategic interest as themes for proposed research projects. These research areas are in keeping with the organisation's own research strategy and are also particularly relevant to the Commission in anticipation of the functions outlined for the new Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

The themes of stated interest to the Commission include: implementing the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive; the economic impact of Sound and Vision, the Broadcasting Funding Scheme; the new Broadcasting Act; Digital broadcasting in Ireland; strands of broadcasting in Ireland and; Codes research.
