12 May 09

This is the view that will greet Ben Southall every day for the next six months as he is the winner of the "Best Job in the World" competition.

The job involves a variety of stressful tasks such as testing scuba gear and kayaks, sampling new luxury spa treatments and feeding fish while living in a three-bedroom luxury villa with pool, on an island on the Great Barrier Reef!

The only real responsibilities involve writing a weekly blog, taking photos, and keeping a video diary to help promote the area for Tourism Queensland.

The competition has proved to be a huge PR success for Tourism Queensland with over 34,000 applications for the job and huge media interest from around the world.
Premier Anna Bligh said the worldwide response to Tourism Queensland's Best Job in the World campaign had been nothing short of phenomenal. "Already we have achieved more than $110m worth of global publicity for Queensland," she said.

He beat Irishman George Karellas to the job, who had also been shortlisted.
