Advertisers square up to TV bosses

Advertisers and advertising agencies are to seek a meeting with RTE this week to discuss its new ad pricing policy. At issue is RTE's surprise move to fix its prices for the second half of this year in a bid to halt the precipitous decline in TV prices.
Advertisers are still considering their response, but the main sticking point is the view RTE has taken on where prices should be pitched, rather than its concept of moving to a fixed price. With prices running at one-third of last year's levels, RTE is forecasting a less dramatic drop in prices in the last six months of 2009, because of the fall-off already experienced in the latter half of 2008.
