Last week's Digital Media Engagement conference featured Edward de Bono, as well as senior representatives of Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo!, local players Muzu.TV and Irish/Lithuanian digital agency Gaumina.ie. Common themes which emerged from the day were the rate and speed of change in the digital sector, the creativity available through the medium and the involvement of consumers.

Some key points of interest:

  • The average online spend of the Irish consumer in 2008 was €1,700 (90 per cent of consumers believe they can save money by shopping online, and one in four expects to spend more online in 2009).
  • The average Irish teenager sends about 10,000 texts a year.
  • 650 million photos are posted on Facebook every week and users spend about 25 minutes a day there.
  • 15 hours of content is uploaded to YouTube every minute.
