The best bets on Paddy Power
21 July 09

Everyone's favorite bookie - Paddy Power - are users of our online press release distribution service, 'Mediadirect'. Their releases often include some hilarious novelty bets and we thought you might enjoy some of these from the past fortnight:

  • Looney Lunar Special: This week marks 40 years since Neil Armstrong first stepped foot onto the moon. In honour of this Paddy Power are giving odds of 1000/1 that it will be discovered that the moon is made of cheese and 12/1 that the original moonwalk is to be proved as a hoax!
  • Following Pope Benedict's fall whilst on holidays in the Alps, odds were slashed on Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze becoming the next Pope and also the first black Pope of our time. Following this Paddy Power have odds on the next role given to a black person, with 9/4 for James Bond, 16/1 for Doctor Who and 20/1 for Taoiseach.
  • The four golf majors always attract a lot of betting action, but this year's hot bet had nothing to do with who would come out in top on Sunday evening - but Ian Poulter's trousers! Paddy Power was forced to suspend betting on the colour of Poulter's trousers for the first round as first tartan and then tartan-red were backed off the boards.
  • There has been huge interest this summer over Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid, with interest peaking here this week with the arrival of the Real Madrid squad to face Shamrock Rovers on Monday night. Paddy Power have released odds on the first hot spot visited by Ronaldo during his stay in Ireland with Krystle the 9/4 favourite, Copperface Jacks at 33/1 and outsider The George at 100/1.
  • Finally, following the appearance of the Holy Tree Stump of Rathkeale in Limerick Paddy Power has been taking bets on the next reported sighting of the blessed Virgin. 5/1 favourite is the Knock Shrine followed by Croagh Patrick and Lough Derg at 12/1. However, racing fans may fancy a flutter on the 100/1 outsider of the Blessed Virgin making an appearance at this year's Galway Races.

So if any of these take your fancy, get straight on to Paddy Power and we will have more of the best novelty bets in a fortnight's time.
