BSkyB has gained 50,000 digital television subscribers in the last year to reach a customer base of over 600,000 Irish homes.
While BSkyB does not reveal the Irish proportion of its latest group results, the Irish Examiner speculates that the company's Irish subscriber numbers are well ahead of the recent estimates from ComReg (the Commission for Communications Regulation), which put the figure at 573,000 in March.
BSkyB has reported adjusted group revenue of just over stg£5.3bn (€6.2bn) for the 12 months to the end of June. Its fourth quarter saw an additional 124,000 customers across the UK and Ireland, bringing its total customer base (the group also provides broadband and telephony services in the British market) to over 9.4 million people.
