Johnston Press closes Kilkenny printers
15 September 09
Kilkenny-based group Johnston Press is to close its printing works for its Irish regional newspaper titles in Kilkenny with the loss of 46 jobs.
The company prints a number of titles at the location, including the Kilkenny People newspaper. Staff have been told about the decision, which the company says was made following a detailed review of printing operations in Ireland. Its printing operations at Limerick and Carn in Northern Ireland will now print the newspapers which had been printed in Kilkenny.
Johnston Press bought a number of titles in Ireland over the past decade as part of its expansion into the provincial newspapers sector here. The company says the operations in the Kilkenny printworks have been loss-making for some time.
