Mediacontact.ie at the cutting edge of cloud computing
27 October 09
This week we realised that, unbeknownst to ourselves, Mediacontact.ie is at the cutting edge of a new revolution sweeping through the world of technology.
I read with interest the lead story in the Economist about the newest buzz word in silicon valley - "Cloud computing". In the future all of the crucial services we use online will be 'in the cloud' or stored in a virtual space in a server. Already many services like online banking, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, and Google are all provided in this way.
When we created MediaDirect - our online media directory and press release distribution service - we wanted users to be be able to access their contacts from anywhere in the world. So we store all the data online and the service is accessible over the internet from anywhere. The beauty of computing in the cloud is that it doesn't matter what type of computer you are on, you can access the service.
So the next time you are stuck somewhere and a media crisis is foist upon you, think of Mediadirect. You wouldn't even need your own computer, and it wouldn't matter if you were in Ballinasloe or Bangalore. All you need is online access and you could send a press release to any of your media lists from your own email address. Now that's what I call service.
