BBC to oversee its Global PR Division
10 November 09
The BBC has made the ground-breaking decision to oversee its global PR division, BBC Worldwide, for the first time. The BBC Worldwide division boasts a 25-strong communications team and has never before reported to the licence fee-funded section of the corporation. The pronouncement negates the traditional separation between the public service and profit-seeking sectors of the BBC.
This restructuring is due to the massive impact the BBC perceives Worldwide to have globally, despite its status as a separate commercial entity. The new pan-BBC division will implement a hardline on global reporting and will mean a formalisation of reporting lines for press officers and communications staff across the entire BBC. The BBC Worldwide communications team will now report to director of communications, Ed Williams. The restructuring will not see any of the existing 160 PR jobs lost.
