Stop the press! Stephen Fry is boring!
10 November 09

For those of you unfamiliar with the most recent Twitter-based outcry, Stephen Fry has been deemed boring. Yes folks, @brumplum has called it. Although he adores the chap, it seems Fry's tweets are sometimes less than effervescent with wit and charm.

After this insult, and I use the term loosely, Fry announced that there was too much bad feeling on Twitter and that @brumplum had convinced him it was time to leave. This caused quite the controversy (again, I use the term loosely).

The story was carried in national and international news, and prompted the Guardian to ask whether Twitter's emerging status as a catalyst for news stories changed the way the medium would be used.

Given that the ending of the tiff saw a loved-up, apologetic and mutually adoring series of tweets between Fry and @brumplum, I would have to argue that Twitter remains polite and without bite as ever. While numerous readers of the Times online article about the tweet of contention sarcastically commented 'Stop the presses', the fact of the matter is that it did. The real question, then, should be - what is the real definition of 'newsworthy'?
