Requiem: Jedward, gone but not forgotten
24 November 09
That fateful day we've all been dreading has come. Jedward have been booted off the X Factor.
After ending up in the bottom two on Sunday night's live results show, John and Edward, the twins from Lucan, Co Dublin went head-to-head in a sing off with Simon Cowell's act Olly Murs, and were voted off by a 3-1 margin.
There's no denying that the show will be significantly less fun without them. Each week they came out and entertained the masses with performances that were memorable, quirky and downright ridiculous at times.
Who could forget their rendition of Ghostbusters, when they donned matching boiler suits and came on stage in a truck? The first, and I predict only, time that a truck will appear on the X Factor stage. Or the time they did Britney's 'Oops I did it again'? Remember the shiny red suits, the trolleys, the spoken bit 'Well Edward, I went down and got it for you' 'Aw you shouldn't have ...' It's high value.
Neither of them have a note in their heads, so the fact that they lasted up until week seven out of twelve in a singing competition, shows just how popular they were and what enormous support they had behind them. Furthermore, Irish viewers can't vote on the UK-based show, so their UK fanbase clearly only scratches the surface.
They've provided many a laugh-out-loud moment, but one of my favourites was when they were asked how they feel about their new nickname 'Jedward'. One of them (I can't tell the difference), replied 'We think it's cool, 'cos you know 'Brangelina'.
A Guardian columnist is predicting that they will be on currency by Easter. One thing is for sure, we aint seen the last of these two.
Here's a clip of one of their finest moments.
