Spain are the biggest odds on shots in the tournament to beat the Republic of Ireland when they clash in Gdansk tomorrow night. The Spanish Giants are the overwhelming favourites at 1/4 to win the match in 90 minutes, while the Boys in Green have been installed at 11/1 according to Boylesports, the Official Betting Partner of the Irish Soccer Team.
Although Trap’s army are up against the odds, the faithful Irish punters continue to believe in our chances of qualification and are backing the draw which is available at 5/1. The Irish firm had to suspend bets on the number of changes Trapattoni would make to the squad for this fixture after they reported a surge of support for less than two changes to be made at 8/11.
The last two times Ireland have beaten Spain in competitive matches was in 1965 and 1989 and on both occasions they won by an own goal. Boylesports are offering 100/1 on history repeating itself.
“Although Ireland are facing a massive challenge against Spain, punters are still as eager as ever to have a bet and it’s superb to see that fans still believe that we can turn things around. Once again, we will be giving punters their cash back if Ireland score on all first, last and anytime bets”, commented Nicola McGeady, Boylesports PR Spokesperson.
