Arsenal fans are distraught at the loss of their top striker, Robin van Persie, to rivals Manchester United for £23 million. However, to soften the blow, Boylesports are offering Gunners supporters a chance to trade in their old jerseys with the Dutch striker’s name on the back. Each shirt handed in to one of the bookmaker’s 179 Irish shops will receive a free €23 bet this weekend, to tie in with the massive transfer fee figure.
A number of Arsenal fans have already posted videos online of them burning their van Persie jerseys following the 29 year old forward’s controversial move.
“Arsenal fans are understandably annoyed that their top goalscorer has joined United. But rather than burn or throw away their jersey in disgust, we’d like to offer them some consolation”, commented Nicola McGeady, Boylesports PR Spokesperson.
The promotion is limited to one jersey per customer and must be an official Arsenal jersey from the 2011/12 season. The offer ends on Saturday at 9:30pm and is limited to football bets. Free bet stakes are non-refundable.
