Dogs Trust Ireland Releases

Lurcher cross Faye was donated to Dogs Trust by a pound after being found abandoned and heavily pregnant.  Last night she delivered 15 healthy puppies, the largest ever litter in Dogs Trust!

The dedicated team at Dogs Trust stayed late yesterday evening to help the expectant mum deliver her brood. She went into labour early afternoon delivering her 1^st pup naturally at 4p.m, however, when she got into difficulty on her 2^nd pup the veterinary team intervened and the remainder were born by C-section.  “We weren’t expecting quite a squad” said canine carer Keith Gibbons, “We knew she was big but we didn’t expect she would have 15 pups, we are going to have a busy bank holiday weekend helping her to feed all the puppies!”  Keith and the team didn’t leave her side the entire time and gave her an extra special helping hand last night taking the squad home for their night feedings and give Mum a well deserved rest. 

Head of marketing, Kathrina Bentley said “We are just delighted that Mum and babies are doing well. When we see large litters like this being born it really reminds everyone the importance of neutering their dogs, instead of rehoming 1 dog we will soon be looking for forever homes for 16 dogs”  

Dogs Trust nationwide neutering campaign offers low cost neutering for dogs whose owners are on state benefit. To date, we have neutered over 75,000 dogs through this initiative.
