“Separated Single” Fastest Growing Status in Donegal

Kindred Spirits Reacts to Societal Changes

Recent reports have shown that the “separated single” status is the fastest growing marital status in Ireland and increasingly in Donegal. As well as this the average marital age for both men and women has extended significantly in recent years due to changing lifestyles and social shifts. 

For many people, finding themselves alone for various reasons, returning to an active social life for the first time in years, can be very daunting. With a lack of confidence and rusted dating skills, many mature people isolate themselves from the opportunity to meet other people, silently sharing the same situation.

For this very reason Kathleen Steyn set up Kindred Spirits, Donegal’s new over 40s dating agency that organises events and creates opportunity, so all you have to do is come along and enjoy.

Inspired by her own experience as a 50-something, divorcee, in Donegal, Kathleen found that it was difficult to meet like-minded people with similar interests as her own in the area.  Therefore she decided to take the mission into her own hands - quite literally!  Her realisation that there was a gap in the market for the over 40’s who are craving friendship and companionship, was the very thing that sparked her business idea.

“My own experience as a divorcee along with the experiences of my friends and acquaintances who may be widowed, never married and/or separated helped me with my market research. We all want to connect with people. The goal of Kindred Spirits is to organise a variety of comfortable and relaxing events for everyone. Without doubt it is difficult to take that first step to get out there and meet new people. But if we do it together, it will be a lot easier for all of us. We have a very busy social calendar for 2012 and I openly welcome all suggestions for activities and possible venues,” says Kathleen.

The first event is a Singles Party Night in Kees Hotel on Friday 20^th January at 10pm.

With an eclectic mix of music to suit all tastes including Country & Western, Rock & Roll, Elvis & more, it’s time to put a spring in your step for the New Year and get your dancing shoes on. Doors open at 10pm and tickets cost €15

Anticipating the night, Kathleen says: “What better way to kick start your New Year than with a fun filled night of dancing, socializing, meeting and greeting in a relaxed and social setting. Come alone or bring a friend and enjoy the first of many great Kindred Spirits events planned for 2012.”
