Statement from World Snooker Friday March 16
O'Sullivan Withdraws From PTC Finals in Galway
Ronnie O'Sullivan has pulled out of the Betfair Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in Ireland for medical reasons.
O'Sullivan, who is suffering from glandular fever, was due to face Ricky Walden in the last 16 of the tournament, tonight (Friday March 16) at the Bailey Allen Hall in Galway.
World Snooker was advised of his withdrawal this morning and Walden now receives a bye to the quarter-finals.
"It was disappointing to find out this morning that Ronnie had pulled out. It's a shame for the fans who had bought tickets," said World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn.
"The sport is bigger than any player and we still have some fantastic names in the event including Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Mark Selby.
"It's been a brilliant event so far with excellent crowds and some great snooker, watch by tens of millions of people around the world, putting Galway in the spotlight on a global scale.
"We're looking forward to a cracking final weekend and hope to see the Irish fans out in force to support this event."
The tournament, which is the culmination of the Players Tour Championship series, runs until Sunday.
There will still be a full evening session at the venue, with an added bonus of an exhibition match between Ireland's top two stars Ken Doherty and Fergal O'Brien.
