PADDY POWER PRESS RELEASE
IFTA FAVOURITES REVEALED WITH 10 DAYS TO GO
(01 February 2012) With just ten days to go until this year’s Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA’s) bookie Paddy Power reveals where most of the money has been going in all the major categories.
Hit flick ‘The Guard’ looks to have no competition in the Best Film category with Paddy Power making it their 1/10 hot favourite. Director John Michael McDonagh also looks a shoo-in for the Best Director award at 1/8 with Brendan Gleeson the 1/2 favourite to see off Michael Fassbender at 6/4 for the Best Actor accolade.
In the television categories, Love/Hate is the 1/20 red-hot favourite to win Best Television Drama but the real competition looks to be in the Best Entertainment and Best Reality Programme categories where MasterChef Ireland at 8/11 will battle it out with Mrs. Brown’s Boys at 5/2 for the gong and TV3’s The Apprentice heads the Best Reality TV Programme betting at 6/5.
The most popular category betting wise however has been ‘Best TV Moment’ of which there were many in 2011. Paddy Power make ‘Barack Obama addressing Ireland’ their 5/6 odds-on favourite followed by ‘Ireland beating Estonia’ to qualify for Euro 2012 at 6/5 and ‘Queen Elizabeth’s banquet speech’ at 7/1. The ‘Dublin Rose’ hip-hop dance’ at 12/1 is also a popular choice amongst punters.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “There are a lot of stand out nominees in the running for this year’s IFTA’s but as Ireland’s equivalent to the Oscars this ceremony has proved before that there is no such thing as a sure bet, and very often the Academy can throw up a few surprises!”
The 9th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards will be held at the Convention Centre Dublin on Saturday 11th of February 2012
