With Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy sitting atop the world rankings ahead of this week’s Open Championship Paddy Power are offering 6/4 that a British or Irish man wins the third major of the year when it tees off at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club on Thursday.

While the likes of Harrington, McIlroy, Clarke and McDowell have been cleaning up for Ireland and Northern Ireland in recent years, England’s drought extends some 16 years, dating back to Nick Faldo’s last major win at the US Masters in 1996 and Paddy Power make it 7/2 for that drought to end at this year’s open

Paddy Power, who are paying to a magnificent seven places in the each way betting of this year’s tournament, have Tiger Woods the 9/1 favourite for the Championship with Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood leading the chasing pack at 16/1 just ahead of Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington who are both at 18/1.
