The Gaiety School of Acting and Smock Alley Theatre 1662 are proud to co-host the inaugural ‘National School Tour’ of the Drama School and Theatre starting this Wednesday 6 June at 1pm.

5th class students from Clarecastle National School, Co. Clare will meet with Patrick Sutton, Director of the Gaiety School of Acting and Smock Alley Theatre 1662 for a 3-hour programme that is both educational and fun.

The young student’s day will begin with a walk through of the school visiting the studios and learning about the history of the school and the famous faces that have passed through the halls such as Colin Farrell, Eva Birthistle and Aidan Turner. As they are visiting on a school day they will even have the opportunity to see trainee actors in action.

The next stop on the tour will be the historical Smock Alley Theatre. The class will be taken on a guided tour through the Theatre, with access to all areas so that they can learn the Story of Smock Alley and imagine what life might have been like for those who first visited the Theatre when it originally opened back 1662.

Once students have seen where actors past and present, perform it will be their turn to take the stage! The students will be taken for a drama workshop where they can warm up, play theatre games, work on your improvisation skills and learn the tricks of the trade for the best in the business.

Patrick Sutton, Director of the Gaiety School of Acting notes ‘I am delighted to welcome the students of Clarecastle. With these tours we aim to prove that a school tour can be both beneficial and fun! Smock Alley is steeped in history having begun life 250 years ago, but we are making ‘living history’ when we encourage children to use their imagination and perform! We hope these tours will make for an exciting, education and very real theatrical experience for all participants’.

School tours can be booked by contacting Aoife Whelan, Educate Coordinator, on 01 6799277 or emailing educate@gaietyschool.com
